BRUKLYN

2022 WEG SHORT FILM LAB FELLOW.

Ursula me Guin once said it is up to authors to spark the imagination of their readers and help them envision alternatives to how we live. This is a belief that writer and director, Bruklyn strives to uphold with her work. While attending New York Film Academy, she became a 2x winner of Miami Film Festival's Cinemaslam Works in Progress Award, leading to her short film winning Grand Prize at their 2020 CinemaSlam Competition. She recently wrote a short documentary for the Blk Originals and LA Rams about Kenny Washington, the football player who re-integrated the NFL.

Fueled by her interest in history, black literature, perception, movement, and magic, she aims to bring life to essential aspects of the African American experience by imagining new worlds that will transition ideologies and norms and create possibilities and potential. Through mingling the voices of men, women and even ghosts, Bruklyn’s work is a place where myth, magic and superstition are inextricably intertwined with everyday verities.
